We are Earth Rangers
We are the middle school extension of DPS Students for Climate Action, a group promoting climate action in Denver Public Schools.
“Sometimes one small impact can become a big one if enough people join together and help.”

#NatureNeedsPublicServants
Earth Rangers has our first video for our Instagram site as part of our #NatureNeedsPublicServants campaign. Our goal is to rally support for our federal, state, and local public servants who do so much to protect nature.
1) Fill in the blanks for this sentence: I'm grateful for public servants at [an agency] because they [do something]. If you want ideas for filling in those blanks, see the attached PDF. Make a picture about it or a short video (<10 seconds).
2) Post on Instagram and tag DPSEarthRangers, or send it to earthrangers@tellerpta.org and we'll post it.
Get excited about heat pumps!
That's right, heat pumps. Heat pumps are a three-in-one. They provide: 1) heating, 2) cooling, and 3) reduced greenhouse gas emissions in our schools.

We Want Eco-Groovy School Buildings
Tell DPS you want eco-groovy school buildings!
Denver Public Schools has the chance to make this happen right now. Hundreds of community members are meeting right now to decide what to fund with DPS’ next bond package.
Tell the committee you want to invest in eco-groovy school buildings with this bond package! When the bond comes up for a vote in November 2024, vote for it - or convince the adults around you to vote for it.
DPS has shown that it can listen to student voice.
Use your voice to make a difference. Please support us by emailing the decision makers and signing our petition. Make sure to get one of our free stickers! And come to the DPS Climate Summit on April 19.
Email the decision makers
Email the Community Planning & Advisory Committee (CPAC) which will decide if eco-groovy heating and cooling receives funding in the next bond package.
Sign Our Petition
This petition will be shared with the Community Planning & Advisory Committee and the Denver Board of Education.
Our schools invest in our future
Our school buildings are polluting our planet
While creating its first ever Climate Action Plan, DPS found that energizing school buildings accounts for 84% of DPS' greenhouse gas emissions, and most of that energy goes to heating and cooling.
The obvious next step is to figure out how to make our schools comfortable for us and the planet.
Electrification is the eco-grooviest thing DPS can do
Heat pumps are a fantastic solution because they can both heat and cool our schools in an eco-groovy way. Heat pumps are three-to-five times more energy efficient than natural gas boilers! Plus, heat pumps are powered by electricity, which can come from renewables.
Electricity is getting more renewable all the time. DPS’ power comes from Xcel Energy, which is already powered by 48% renewables, and that percentage is headed up.
Even better, DPS can save money and help the planet by generating its own renewable energy!
Xcel Energy’s renewable energy forecast is looking good.
We can turn our schools from polluters to planet coolers

Renewables can pay for themselves over a 10-12 year period. In addition, the Inflation Reduction Act provides substantial subsidies that can make renewables like solar and geothermal a smart financial choice for our district.
What if every school had solar panels on top, and every football field had geothermal running underneath? What if every school was powered by our own electricity? DPS truly can be a national leader on climate change
