Hitting the Press
Chalkbeat, a non-profit news organization that covers education in America, featured a story on DPS Students for Climate Action and the process of creating school-wide climate policy. They interviewed Gabriel Nagel on the process of going from resolution to policy and incorporating climate action into schools at a community level.
Protecting Earth’s Future
DPS for Climate Action met with Guest Speaker Beverly Castaneda, an indigenous rights and climate activist from Denver, Colorado. She is also part of the AFC+A, an environmental nonprofit focusing on community resilience, and Spirit of the Sun, a community improving tribal conditions for youth. Through this meeting, our team was able to gain new insight on how to ensure our policy can help build a greater environmental connection.
DPS Petition
A group of students from across DPS has been working together since February of 2021 to create a resolution for DPS to address the climate crisis.
Right now, DPS has no plan to address climate change and is not required to follow the City of Denver or Colorado’s climate goals. We (the students) believe that DPS needs to pass our resolution to address the climate crisis.
